Smoking

Mar. 15, 2012

Dear Mr. President,

My name is Neenja .  I am a student at Parkway West Middle, and I am writing you today to share my thoughts about smoking.  I am very annoyed by the people who smoke, because it harms me, and I don't like the smell.  Also, I wonder why the government is doing nothing to stop the production of cigarettes and one of the leading causes of death.

One big problem in the US and the whole world is smoking, and even though some people know the harmful effects of it, they still smoke.  Smoking is killing many people every day and nothing is done by the government to stop it. There are many poisons and chemicals and some of them cause cancer, which is also one of the leading causes of death in the US.  Why does the government allow all those chemicals to be put into the cigarettes which are distributed to the American people every day?  The smoke that is produced by the cigarette is going into other innocent people's body and they receive twice the damage that the actual smoker receives, because they have no filter.  Also, the chew and dip tobacco are also produced in abundant numbers, and many people buy it, and they are even more harmful than the cigarettes.  The misleading ads that are tricking many people every day into wanting to smoke, and then hooking them are also allowed to be produced.

I feel that one reason that smoking is allowed is that the government needs more money for all the projects, but can't they do it in a less harmful way?  Please take in my consideration and try to stop the cigarette business.

Thank you for your time and work.

Sincerely,

Neenja
