Recycling

Dear Mr. President,

My name is Sunny, and I am a student at Parkway West Middle school, and I am writing to you today in concern of the lack of recycling.

The Earth is a beautiful place, with the tropical forests, and the lovely beaches. But there are also the dumps and the trash mounds. So many places, once beautiful, that are now being used to hold garbage. This problem accounts especially for Americans. They represent only 5% of the world's population, but create about 30% of the world's trash.

Not enough people are recycling. In sum, Americans cause to be wasted nearly 1 million pounds of materials per person every year. Of the garbage Americans throw out, half of it could be recycled, and even that is enough to fill a football stadium every day.

Recycling is also good for the economy. When purchasing recycled products, it creates a greater demand for these goods. Recycled goods are made from less water, which uses less energy. Using less energy costs less, therefore helping the economy.

Not only does recycling help the economy, it benefits in lots of other places too.

              It saves money

              It saves landfill space

It reduces the rate of global warming

It improves the quality of water, air etc.

I believe that there should be a bigger effort put into recycling. Recycling is an important step to keeping the Earth clean, and it should be further encouraged. One of the many reasons Americans don't recycle is because it is not an issue often discussed. But something small now can lead to something large in the close future, and I the first step is getting people to believe that recycling will make a difference.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                                                                     Sunny
