Dear Mr. President,
My name is Jimmy. I am a student at West Middle School in Parkway, and I am writing you today to share my thoughts about recycling. I became interested when I noticed that recycling costs a lot of money, money that otherwise could be used for parks, schools, or government projects. We have a ton of space. This means recycling really shouldn't be an issue.
Recycling is now a moral activity, not something for saving much of anything. We really have quite enough space for landfills, and it costs quite a bit of money (in New York, $250 per ton of recycled plastic, glass, and paper). Why do we even recycle? We could use that money, and we really don't need the space.
People these days are simply overreacting and I think we should educate people to make their own decision on this very important subject: recycling.
Thank you for reading this and thinking about an issue that goes beyond our lifetimes. I hope you will take this matter into consideration.
Sincerely,
Jimmy
